On February 6th, 2026, we gathered for the second session of Khichik, organized by Ohana:The Family of DST-CPR, CUG. It was more than just a presentation; it was a dialogue on how the lens serves as a silent witness to the complexities of human existence.

We began by tracing the history of this medium back to Joseph Nicéphore Nié

pce. It is humbling to realize that every image we see today—capturing pain, resilience, or survival—finds its roots in his first experiments with light.

Through a curated selection of powerful imagery, we explored the duality of structural violence and everyday resilience:

The Global Struggle: From the haunting portrait of a young AIDS orphan in South Africa by Brent Stirton to the devastating "World Press Photo of the Year" by Pablo Bartholomew, capturing a child lost to the Bhopal gas tragedy.

The Indian Landscape: We looked at Raghubir Singh’s Bihar, where women huddled against monsoon rains in a style he called "on the Ganges side of modernism".

Photography does not just "take" a picture; it gives a voice to those often left in the shadows. It reminds us that behind every frame is a story of endurance that deserves to be told.

If you would like to explore these visual stories further, please visit our website to access the full presentation used during the session: https://www.ohana-dstcpr.com/general-6-1

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined the conversation. Let us continue to look at the world through a lens of empathy.
