On January 03, 2026, the first session of Ulfat — presented by Kumar Gaurav — explored several key concepts to understand philosophy both as an academic discipline and as a way to contextualize its protean roles in society. Using a musical nazm by Bahadur Shah Zafar to illustrate a romantic imbroglio, the talk discussed three core aspects of philosophy — metaphysics, ethics, and epistemology. A detailed classification of Indian philosophy was then introduced to the audience. The final section reflected on how scholars such as Bohr, Freud, and Schumacher, across different parts of the world, drew upon distinct darsanas (visions) to examine their respective fields of inquiry, thereby acquiring alternative lenses of understanding and moving closer to truth. In upcoming episodes of Ulfat, more expansive, convivial, and narrative-driven endeavors will be undertaken to cultivate philosophical instincts rooted in Indian traditions, transforming both pleasure and unease into productive moments of reflection.
